Style
Style is one part identity : self-awareness and self-knowledge. You cannot have style until you have articulated a self. And style requires security-feeling at home in one's body, phsically and mentally. Of course, like all knowledge, self-knowledge must be updated as you grow and evolve ; style takes ongoing self-assessment.
Style is also one part personality : Spirit, verve, attitude, wit, inventiveness. It demands the desire and confidence to express whatever mood one wishes. Such variability is not only necessaary but a reflection of a person's unique complexity as a human being. People want to be themselves and to be seen as themselves. In order to work, style must reflect the real self, the character and personality of the individual; anything less appears to be a costume.
Lastly, style is one part fashion. It is possible to have lots of clothes and not an ounce of style. But it is also possible to have very few clothes and lots of style. Fashion is the means through which we express of women have coveted the little black dress, a garment so unassuming in line and perfect in proportion that it is the finest foil for excursions into self-expression.

作自의 말
왜 미쳤다고들 그러는지 대체 우리는 남보다 수 십년씩 떨어지고도 마음놓고 지낼 작정이냐. 모르는 것은 내 재주도 모자랐겠지만 게을러 빠지게 놀고 만 지내던 일도 좀 뉘우쳐 봐야 아니 하느냐. 여남은 개쯤 써 보고서 시 만들 줄 안다고 잔뜩 믿고 굴러다니는 패들과는 물건이 다르다. 二千點에서 三十點을 고르는데 땀을 흘렸다. 31년 32년 일에서 용대가리를 딱 꺼내어 놓고 하도들 야단에 배암 꼬라지커녕 쥐꼬랑지도 못 달고 그냥 두니 서운하다. 깜박 신문이라는 답답한 조건을 잊어버린 것도 실수지만 李泰俊 朴太遠 두 형이 끔찍이도 편을 들어 준 데는 절한다.
鐵 - 이것은 내 새길의 암시요 앞으로 제 아무에게도 屈하지 않겠지만 호령하여도 에코 - 가 없는 무인지경은 딱하다. 다시는 이런 - 물론 다시는 무슨 다른 방도가 있을 것이고 위선 그만둔다. 한동안 조용하게 공부나 하고 따는 정신병이나 고치겠다.

TED
TED는 미국의 비영리 재단으로 정기적으로 열리는 기술, 오락, 디자인에 관련된 강연회를 개최하고 있다. TED는 Technology, Entertainment, Design의 앞글자를 모은 것이다. 현재는 미국뿐만 아니라 유럽, 아시아등에서도 개최 하고 있으며 TEDX라는 형식으로 각 지역에서 독자적인 강연회를 개최하기도 한다. 1984년에 창립되었고 1990년부터 매년 개최되었으며 특히 TDD강연회와 기타 다른 강연회의 동영상 자료를 웹사이트에 올려 많은 인기를 끌고 있다. 초대되는 강연자들은 각 분야의 저명인사와 괄목할 만한 업적을 이룬 사람들이 대부분인데 이중에는 빌 클린턴, 알 고어등 유명인사와 많은 노벨상 수상자들이 있다. TED를 현재 이끄는 기획자는 크리스 앤더슨으로 전직 컴퓨터 저널리스트이자 잡지 발행자였으며 새플링 재단에 속해있다. 2005년부터는 매년 3명의 TED상이 수여되는데 '세상을 바꾸는 소망'을 가진 이들에게 수여된다. "널리 퍼져야할 아이디어(Ideas Worth Spreading)"가 모토이다.

Liberal Education
Fortunately it is as yet only through fantasy that we can see what the destruction of the scholarly and scientific disciplines would mean to mankind. From history we can learn what their existence has meant. The sheer power of disciplined thought is revealed in practically all the great intellectual and technological advances which the human race has made. The ability of the man of disciplined mind to direct this power effectively upon problems for which he was not specifically trained is proved by examples without number. The real evidence for the value of liberal education lies in history and in the biographies of men who have met the valid criteria of greatness. These support overwhelmingly the claim of liberal education that it can equip a man with fundamental powers of decision and action, applicable not only to boy-girl relationship, to tinkering hobbies, or to choosing the family dentist, but to all the great and varied concerns of human life - not least, those that are unforeseen.
